Litigation Law Clerk
We are currently looking to add an experienced law clerk to our team of legal professionals.
The successful candidate will work directly with partners on a variety of commercial litigation and insurance related matters. Important qualifications of the successful candidate will include:
• familiarity with both the Ontario Superior Court and the Federal Court of Canada;
• experience with complex commercial litigation matters;
• familiarity or experience with transportation law, with a particular emphasis on truck transportation and maritime shipping; and
• familiarity or experience with insurance litigation including product liability as well as bodily injury claims.
The ideal candidate must have at least 5 to 8 years experience as a law clerk. The successful candidate will be proficient with PC law (or similar system), Excel and strong working knowledge of litigation document management systems. The successful candidate must be able to work independently with limited supervision both on very large matters as well as handling the majority of tasks on smaller matters.

Working closely with our lawyers, the articling student will provide support to both our insurance and transportation law practices, assisting the lawyers in all aspects of legal work, including: researching interesting legal issues, providing opinions; drafting pleadings, letters and memoranda; analyzing files; assisting with preparation for examinations for discoveries; attending at Superior Court of Justice and Federal Court hearings; preparing motion materials, and personally handling matters before the Small Claims Court. Some of our transportation-related work may include the prosecution and defence of cargo damage claims, the arrest of vessels, advising logistics/freight forwarding companies on cross border issues, and working with carriers in all modes (marine, surface (road and rail) and aviation). Some of our insurance-related work will include the research and drafting of insurance coverage opinions and the defence of personal injury claims.
